Violet "Vi" Dyer

July 27, 1925 — January 25, 2022

Huntsville, Ontario

DYER, Violet Eva “Vi” (nee Hammell) - Died peacefully, at Muskoka Landing Huntsville, on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Vi was in her 97th year. Born in Bracebridge to Thomas John Hammell and Eva Agnes Hammell, she was the youngest of seven children: Margaret, Archibald, John, Melvin, Mabel, and Gordon, all predeceased. The Hammell farm, where she grew up, was on what is now Muskoka Hills (formerly Rainbow Ridge).

Vi married Herbert Alvin Dyer, on September 13, 1947, and was married for 63 years to the love of her life, before he predeceased her in 2010. Violet leaves behind her sons Ron (Kathy) and Ralph, both of Bracebridge, her grandchildren Angela (Cory) Pilgrim of Minden, Gavin Dyer of Calgary, and great granddaughter Rylan Pilgrim of Minden.

Out of high school, she worked for several years for local dentist Dr. Shuttleworth, she then moved to her lifelong career as a Bell Telephone operator and supervisor.  Early on with Bell, she travelled to Penetang and Brampton as a relief operator and to train staff.  After marriage she worked exclusively, in Bracebridge, until retirement. Vi loved life and people and was always making friends wherever she went.

Al and Vi loved to travel to Florida for the winter and spend their summers here. They cottaged for many years on the Muskoka River and later on Leonard Lake.  She liked to play golf, curl, and play bridge whenever possible. It would not have been a Sunday without an invitation to come for dinner and to eat all that was placed before you - “It won’t be any good for breakfast.”

The family would like to thank everyone at James St. Place, in Bracebridge, and Muskoka Landing, in Huntsville, for their thoughtful and kind care in Vi’s final years. Cremation has taken place and interment will be arranged in the spring.

For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Vi may be made to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation https://www.healthmuskoka.ca/ and can be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be shared through www.reynoldsfuneral.com
