Foster, Robert (Bob)

Bob passed peacefully at Andy’s House on Friday, November 4th 2022, with his wife of 54 years, Carol, and children Kim and Wes by his side.

Born in Toronto, Ontario on December 14th, 1943 Bob is survived by his wife Carol (Burr) and children Kim (Kevin Swayze) and Wes (Kaitlynn Hensen) and brother John. He loved every moment with his grandchildren Adam and Jaxyn, and step-grandchildren Dallas, Theresa, Alison and Ben. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Grace (Lickorish) and David Foster, and sister Shirley.

Bob joined the Ontario Provincial Police in the 1960’s after trying out careers in construction and as a surveyor working for the Ministry of Transportation on the initial construction of the 401 Highway. Bob met Carol as an OPP on duty at Wasaga Beach in the summer of 1967 and they married in March of 1968. They first lived in Burlington, Ontario and then moved to Thessalon, Ontario in 1973, and to Bracebridge in 1987. Bob was retired for 29 years from the OPP and during this time enjoyed another career working at Cavalcade Ford, where he was affectionately known as “Bubbles”.

Bob was remarkable in his life-long friendships, his love of the outdoors – hunting, fishing, camping, boating – and his constant readiness for the next adventure. Bob and Carol camped coast-to-coast several times and up to the arctic ocean – enjoying the best views in Canada. When life took a sad turn in 2008 and a motorcycle accident changed his life, his first and only concern was for Carol. However, nothing that came Bob’s way was going to defeat him, including his cancer diagnosis in 2020.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Andy’s House in Port Carling, for their exceptional kindness and care for Bob over the last few weeks of his life. Special thanks to all the friends and neighbours who have helped Bob and Carol. No funeral is planned. Friends wishing to honour Bob with a memorial donation are asked to consider Andy’s House or the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters
