Peter "Douglas" Foulkes

November 29, 1954 — March 22, 2021

Bracebridge, Ontario

Passed away peacefully at The Pines Long Term Care Home in Bracebridge on Monday, March 22, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Doug leaves behind his parents; Harold and Betty Foulkes, his sister; Linda (Jim) Moses, his nieces; Heather Cermak and Ashley Thompson, his great nephews; Quinton and Mason Cermak and his step-nephew; Michael Moses and step-great nephew; Ares Moses. He will be dearly missed by aunt and uncle; Reta and Don Simkin and cousins; Wayne (Annette) Simkin and Brian (Debbie) Simkin as well as his extended family and friends.

Doug enjoyed his long career as a custodian with The Muskoka Board of Education and the many friends and acquaintances he made while stationed at Macaulay Public School and Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School.

The family farm in Brackenrig was Doug’s home for most of his life until he moved to his own home in Bracebridge. When Parkinson’s robbed him of his ability to drive, he could be seen walking or on his scooter, enjoying all the town had to offer. In fine weather, he could be found in the evenings with the group of friends who met at “The Bench”.

Our sincere thanks go out to a homecare organization called The Friends, who helped Doug to remain in his home as long as possible, to Dr. Victoria Dechert, who treated Doug with such care and compassion and to the staff at The Pines, where Doug’s “Regular Girls” became like family and could always get him giggling.

In keeping with Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends will take place in future. In memory, donations can be made to The Pines Long Term Care Home or to Parkinson’s Canada https://www.parkinson.ca/ and may be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home.
