Paul Gilbert

May 24, 1962 — April 4, 2023

After a long battle with cancer, Paul passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on April 4th at Andy’s House Hospice in Port Carling.  Beloved son of predeceased Evelyn and Douglas Gilbert, brother of predeceased Betty (Andre).  Loving brother to Sheila (Donald) and Debbie (Joe).  Uncle of Stacey (Clayton), David, Lyle, Holly, Crystal, Brent, and Brooke.

Paul was a fixture of the community for his commitment to the local independent grocery store.  He took a great deal of pride in his job.  Not just for the tasks at hand, but for the people.  He cared for not just the staff but also for the customers who would pass by him every day.  He was people person through and through.  Paul was an avid hockey fan.  His Toronto Maple Leaf’s could do no wrong.  “This year they will win the cup”, was always a steadfast belief with this true fan. Paul never missed a game on TV.  Paul was also the lover of animals.  He doted on his two cats as much as they loved and doted on him.

As a young man, Paul was a very athletic such that he enjoyed field hockey and excelled in the local Special Olympics. He always took pride in being a team player.  Cars were also a passion for Paul.  He had a keen eye for muscle cars and in the last few years became a collector of model cars.  Paul always cared and loved who ever came across his path.  We will always love and care for his memory the same way he loved and cared for us and those that were lucky enough to meet him.  Rest peacefully Paul.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Andy’s House Port Carlin or the Canadian Cancer Society.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
