John Watkins

WATKINS, John Charles – Passed away peacefully at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, on Friday, March 5, 2021. Survived by partner and best friend, Carol Readman. Beloved father of Lori Harding (Paul), Angie Anderson, Wynne Readman (Kevin Richard). Loving grandfather of Brandon Carroll. Predeceased by his mother Ivy Jennings and father William Watkins.

John was born and raised in Toronto. On completion of high school, he travelled up to Gravenhurst where he began his electrical apprenticeship with Hydro One. After many moves about the province, he left Hydro One to pursue a new career. John completed Teachers College then began teaching The Peel Board of Education, in Brampton. While teaching, he completed his BA as well as running a contracting business.

He spent many years at his cottage, on Dennison Island, Kawagama Lake. Following his retirement from teaching, John settled in Bracebridge.

John was an Honourary Member of Hanover Lodge No. 432, having received his 60 year pin last year. He was a member of Rameses Shrine Club, Muskoka Shrine Club, Muskoka Shrine Hillbillie Unit, The Royal Arch Seguin Chapter, and of the Scottish Rites.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service, as per his request. If desired, as an expression of sympathy, a donation in his memory may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, Canada.
