Douglas Wilson

March 24, 1948 — January 4, 2021

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Douglas Wilson following a short illness, on Monday, January 4, 2021 in his 73rd year. Doug leaves behind to mourn, his beloved wife of 50 years, Donna (nee Hudema). He will be dearly missed by his siblings Don, Carol Robertson (Kim), Peter (Veronica), Jim (Vivanne). Brother-in-law of  Alan Hudema, Janet McIntosh (Sam), Cathy Morrow (Wayne), Jim Hudema, and Pat Hudema (Lauri Di Battista). He will be lovingly remembered by his 31 nieces & nephews and 30 great nieces & great nephews.

Predeceased by parents Carl & Mary and brothers John & Carl Jr.

Doug started with Wilson’s Truck Lines, a family-owned trucking business in 1968. Always interested in the trucks and maintenance of the business. Doug began his career in trucking as a yard jockey at the grocery warehouse for A&P Canada in Toronto.

He aspired to become assistant fleet manager and in 1981 became the Managing Partner of Fleet Maintenance when the next generation of sons took control of the company. His primary responsibilities included purchasing and maintenance of all assets required for deliveries.

Synonymous with the Wilson name, established in 1937, for many men and women the company has been the core of their lives. Doug’s legacy will be remembered in the history of the company for years to come.

Doug’s love of life was evident in how he invited family and friends to his and Donna’s Lake Muskoka home. He was an avid boater, enjoyed his Skidoo and loved to party at “The Island”. He enjoyed his winter vacations to his favourite places: Turks & Caicos and Grand Cayman.

The family extends their thanks and gratitude for the care and support of Mary Ann & Garry Beaudin, Trisha Harwood, Susan Fiorini and nurse Thera Green.

A service to celebrate the life of Doug will be held at later date with a Graveside service taking place at Glen Orchard Cemetery, Port Carling, in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory, made to Andy’s House (Hospice Muskoka) www.hospicemuskoka.com would be most appreciated and can be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home.
