William "John" Moffatt

William “John” Moffatt, age 91, of Bracebridge, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka in Port Carling.

He was the cherished and devoted husband of Beth, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, building a remarkable life together.

John was a role model and mentor to his three sons: Bill (Arlene) of Calgary, James (Tiffany) of Kelowna, and Dave (Mary) of Bracebridge. He was a proud and adoring Poppa to his seven grandchildren: Robin, Max, Tyler, Jessica, Abbey, Avery, and Adriene.

John spent his early years in Montreal. He attended McGill University where he earned a degree in chemical engineering and had a long and successful career in the industry. John and Beth raised their family in Oakville where they established many deep and lasting friendships. After cottaging in Muskoka for 30 years they moved to Bracebridge in 2014. He was an active member of every community he called home and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

John was happiest at the head of Beth’s dinner table, surrounded by family, friends, and lively conversation. He will be remembered for his ability to share a good joke, his avid interest in world events, his love of science and technology, and his passion for building and flying radio-controlled planes. Above all, John was a true gentleman who was always so full of life and love.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ken Hotson and Dr. Jessica Nairn for their compassionate care.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 8th 2026, from 2pm to 5pm, at the Canadian Raceboat Hall of Fame, Muskoka Lakes Township. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation or Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka.
