Walter S. Poulstrup

1940 — 2025

Bracebridge

Walter was born in Taars Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1949. The family of four boys settled on a farm in Churchill ON and later moved to Georgetown ON for Grade 8 and high school. After graduating from Toronto Lakeshore Teachers College, he began his career as Principal of a two-room school in Vankoughnet, ON. In 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Kinrade, resided in Bracebridge, and started a family of three. His teaching career blossomed-a teacher for one year and principal for 34. He oversaw the building of additions or new schools and the closing of six one-room schools, (he taught in one of them), that amalgamated into Watt Public School.

Recreational skills were outdoor sports: curling, tennis, canoe tripping, cross country and alpine skiing, hockey, sailing, football as a teenager and the building of two homes.

After retirement, he filled his days by landscaping the grounds of the house he and Barbara built by the lake. He spent as much time as possible with his ten grandchildren and traveling Europe, Canada and Denmark with Barbara and friends. In his eighties, he welcomed a great grandchild and celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary. He was dedicated to his family, friends, students, colleagues, and anyone in need. We will miss him but fondly remember him.
