Walter Atkinson

Walter Atkinson passed away surrounded by family on November 9, 2025, at the age of 91 at Andy's House in Port Carling. Cherished husband of Margaret (McDonald) and father to Terry, Jeanette, Patricia, Toni, Steven (Loretta), and Peter (Irene). Proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many. 

Born in Hamilton, Ontario to William and Alice, Walter remained a loyal Tiger-Cats fan his entire life. He met Margaret on a blind date, and they were happily married for 68 years during which time they welcomed 5 children together. They relocated to Muskoka where Walter was a foreman for Alcan Cable. Walter and Margaret shared a love for golf and curling and often competed in couples and solo tournaments. Over the years they even collected quite a few trophies. 

Walter was well-known in the family and neighbourhood for maintaining an immaculate lawn. Most days he could be found outside mowing his lawn, and many of the neighbours' as well, raking leaves, tending the gardens, shoveling the driveway, or fixing items that sometimes weren't even broken. 

Walter was truly one-of-a-kind and will forever hold a special place in each heart of the people who knew and loved him. Walter will be remembered most fondly for his generosity and work ethic. 

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Andy's House for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Walter's name to Andy's House
