On Sunday, March 22 Verlie Fetterly sadly left us at the age of 83. She fell asleep peacefully with her beloved spouse, Wayne Roberts by her side. Treasured Mother to Terry, Tod and Cindy. Cherished grandmother to Jessie, Kelsie, Haily, Myles, Ava, Luca, Marky and Everlie. Loved daughter to Russell and Ida Fraser. Lastly, devoted Aunt to many.
Many times, I’ve heard people say, “I couldn’t find a better friend than your Mother.” I’m happy to call her my Mother because she’s my best friend too. How she loved being a mother! After three kids she took in a foster child who later became my sister-in-law. As well my Mother never missed a chance to be a Nana.
Verlie was a fantastic daughter also. When her parents could no longer look after themselves, she bought a house to accommodate them and gladly did the caregiving.
My Mother had no enemies. She had a special way of not letting anyone get to her. She never responded to negative, juvenile behavior. I rolled off of her… Not her problem. Yet she would stick up for her kids. The queen of sarcasm, and gullible as well. My Mom was a hoot.
Slowly she made her way into a teller position at CIBC. Before retiring at the age of 64 she was commonly known as the lady at CIBC who was always smiling.
Verlie had many talents in her time. She was a wonderful pianist and guitar player and was a joiner for almost any event. She came to acquire a love for fishing. Particularly, fly fishing and making flies. She had a giving nature and was such a fun and peaceful person to be around.
Many people knew Verlie for her kind-heartedness. Soon my Mom became hindered with Parkinson’s at around age 70. It brought her down quickly. Her quality of life was poor and she is with the Lord now. My Mom will be sorely missed. It’s unlike her to ask for much however and she has asked in a letter to be remembered.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Verlie will take place at the Reynolds Funeral Home, 1 Mary Street, Bracebridge, on Saturday, April 4th at 1pm. Reception to follow.
