THOMAS GEORGE GEFUCIA 

March 9, 1955 – September 22, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Tom Gefucia announce his unexpected passing on September 22, 2026, surrounded by family, at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lindsay, his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Melanie Gefucia, his daughter and her partner, Gina Gefucia and Nick McKee, his granddaughters Tenley and Kenzie Gefucia and his sister, Brenda Gefucia.

Tom was born in Windsor, Ontario to George and May Gefucia, who predeceased him, and the family moved to Bracebridge three years later. Brenda joined the family the following year and together they enjoyed all the things that living and growing up in Bracebridge had to offer. Great friendships, education, activities, clubs, and playing outside until the streetlights went out! In 1978, Tom married Lindsay, his true partner in life.

After college Tom and Lindsay moved to New Liskeard, North Bay and Burlington before returning home to Bracebridge. Tom was a CPA (CGA) and worked as an accountant and senior leader in manufacturing then at Muskoka Transport, Deerhurst, Sequel Lifestyle Hotels and Resorts and Delta Hotel’s Muskoka Resorts. He retired from his role as Treasurer of the Township of Lake of Bays.

Tom participated in various sports, most notably Fastball. He was a well-regarded pitcher and was honoured to receive the Tom Quinn Memorial Trophy For Dedication to Fastball in the Town of Bracebridge in 2017. In later years he could be seen almost daily on one of his long walks through town. He found great happiness in travelling with Lindsay, especially river cruises and leaving winter behind to visit warm climates. His post-travel reviews of the trip are legendary in the family! While often a quiet man, we knew him to have a great sense of humour. And we knew the pride and love he had in his children and grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa Chico. We will miss him but will hold tight to the many wonderful memories.

The family would like to thank Tom’s physician, Dr. Shannon Lees, as well Dr. Maier and the ER Team and Dr. Maierean and the ICU Team at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. Their calm, compassionate care of Tom and the family was so greatly appreciated.

The family will welcome family and friends at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 1-4pm at the PK Lodge Restaurant (1360 Golden Beach Road, Bracebridge, ON). In lieu of flowers, donations to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation or Hospice Muskoka would be appreciated.
