Richard Joseph Duggan (Sept 23rd, 1953 - Feb 18th, 2024)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Joseph Duggan, beloved husband to Barbara, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who departed from this world on Feb 18th, 2024, at the age of 70.   Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard was born on Sept 23rd, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario, where he spent his formative years being raised by his parents Norman and Agnes Duggan along with his three sisters, (Deanna, Denise, and Darlene) and his twin brother Glenn.

In his professional life, Richard worked at various places such as the City of Toronto, as a fireplace salesman and in the engine rooms of large steamships which he often liked to reminisce about.  Richard finally found his calling and significant success operating his own chimney-sweeping business called Duggans Chimney Sweep and Repair.    His integrity, reliability, and passion for his work earned him the respect and admiration of his customers in the GTA.  This company played a big role in allowing him to relocate to Muskoka when he fell in love with and married Barbara.  Something he referred to as the best decision of his life.

Outside of work, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life.  He had a great love for nature and often spent his time exploring the outdoors with Barbara on their family property.  Whether it was walking the trails, cutting firewood, or just enjoying time at the cabin by the lake, Richard found solace and contentment in the landscape around him.

At the age of 55, Richard was blessed with a second lease on life with a kidney donation and successful transplant that was performed at Toronto General Hospital.  Richard spoke often of the gratitude he felt towards the family of the donator and was adamant that the extension of his life would not be wasted.

Richard's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Barbara, his stepchildren Tina Nickason (Travis), and Mark Nickason (Susie), his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit will continue to inspire us, guiding us with the wisdom and passion for life that he so generously shared during his time on earth.

Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation on February 23, 2024, at 1:00 pm, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Located at Reynolds Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider in Richard’s memory a donation to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
