Ross, Rev. Alan died peacefully at his home in Bracebridge on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Joyce Ross. Dear father of Jamie (Chantelle), Lizanne Harvey (Don), Cameron (Nicole) and the late Sandy. Loving grandfather of Evan, Alex, Ben, Sam, Kayla, Hailey, Tori, Sean, Meghan, Jenna, Erin, Colin and the late Owen. Dear brother of Florence Ross.
Alan was ordained in 1960 and was a minister with the Presbyterian Church until his retirement in 1998; at that time, he and Joyce found a beautiful property and home in Bracebridge, and happily settled there to watch the waterfowl, squirrels and the many birds. Alan served in churches in Penetang, Mitchell, Toronto, and Sault Ste. Marie, as well as in Hamilton, Bermuda, where he was also padre of the Canadian Forces Base. He was on the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was Chaplain of the Bar River Scout Troup, Head of the Pastoral Care Team for Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, and coordinator of the Christmas Cheer program for the United Way in the Soo. He served two terms as Chair of the Committee to Nominate at General Assembly. After retirement, he did part time ministry in Port Carling and Vankoughnet. He is remembered as a kind gentleman and a great talker. Alan had a passion for canoeing and camping, and also loved to spend time at his island cottage on Ranger Lake in Algoma. He will be sadly missed by Joyce, his beloved wife of 62 years, his loving family, and his many dear friends.
A Memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Bracebridge on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. As your expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church. Arrangements entrusted to the Reynolds Funeral Home in Bracebridge. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.reynoldsfuneral.com.
