It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Topping, in her 99th year, at James Street Retirement Home.

Phyllis was predeceased by her beloved husband, Morris, in 2010.

She will be deeply missed by her children: Terry (Christine) Topping, Candace (James) Quale, Lori (Alvin) Hill, Chrisanne Robinson, and Trent (Tammy) Topping, as well as her 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished dearly.

Phyllis was a remarkable woman who lived a full and meaningful life. In her early years, she worked as a dental hygienist in Napanee, Ontario. She later married Morris, who worked for Trans Canada Pipelines, and together they moved north.

In 1966, they settled in Bracebridge, where they purchased and operated the Wells Motel while raising their five children. Though she was devoted to her family and business, Phyllis never let go of her dream of becoming a nurse. In her 40s, she courageously returned to school and achieved that goal, going on to practice at South Muskoka Hospital for 10 years. She was known for her compassion and formed many lasting friendships with both colleagues and patients.

Phyllis’s home was always open to those in need—whether someone was hungry or needed a place to stay, she gave generously and selflessly, always putting others before herself.

A woman of deep faith, she found great strength and community through her church.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the care and kindness shown to Mom during her time at James Street Retirement Home.

Friends will be received at Reynolds Funeral Home on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A private family service will be held on Monday, May 4, her 100th birthday, when we will say our final farewell.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Phyllis can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society

She has taken the Lord’s hand and will continue her journey.
