Maria Louise Biehn
October 25th 1929 — October 8th 2026
As a fearless young woman in search of adventure and belonging, Maria immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands at the age of nineteen, not long after the end of the Second World War. Boarding a ship in Rotterdam, Maria travelled a great distance from her family of five sisters, father and stepmother.
Soon after arriving in Canada, Maria met her husband, Bob (John Robert Biehn). Maria joined Bob on some epic journeys in the Canadian wilderness, later making a home and starting a family in Toronto.
Maria loved spending time with her family and leaves behind a legacy of three adult children and their partners, three millennial grandchildren and their partners, and five great-grandchildren. Maria’s absence is also felt by an extended family in the Netherlands, including a sister and many affectionate nieces and nephews.
Maria (Mom, Oma, Tante Letje) enjoyed family celebrations, concerts and theatre, dinners out, shopping sprees, and relaxing at the cottage. Maria shared fond memories of visits from family from the Netherlands.
She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness, her bravery, her sense of humour, and her love of fashion and enduring sense of style. Maria adored animals and was ever surrounded by an entourage of canine fur babies, and more recently, birds, chipmunks, raccoons and groundhogs.
We thank the residents at Castle Peak for their friendship, laughter and music over the past four years.
We want to say a huge thank-you to Andy’s House Hospice in Port Carling. Please support Andy's House in lieu of flowers.
