Louise Kirbyson (née Hammell)
October 2, 1943 – March 12, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Louise Kirbyson announce her peaceful passing at Andy’s House on March 12, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 82.
Louise was the beloved wife of the late Bev Kirbyson. She was a devoted mother to Grant Kirbyson (Elaine), Brian Kirbyson, and Beth Pepin (Claude).
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kelsey Matthews (Michael), Meagan Gibson (Luc), Kameron Kirbyson, Brynn Kirbyson, Jessie Pepin, and Carling Jenkerson (Colby), and cherished great-grandmother to Mason, Julia, Charlie, and Addison.
Louise was the beloved daughter of the late Elmer and Jessie (Coutts) Hammell. She was predeceased by her sister Marjorie Brown (Merv) and will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Lynda Blanchard (Terry), Jean Sadler (Bill), and Norma Bezzant (Dave), as well as her brother-in-law Alex Goerk (Leona) and many nieces and nephews.
Born at Huntsville Hospital, Louise spent her childhood years in Raymond before making Port Carling her home for over 60 years. She was well known in her community and enjoyed many friendships throughout the Muskoka area.
Louise had a passion for curling and was an avid curler for over 45 years. She was also a dedicated card player who loved games of Bid Euchre and Bridge, often playing with friends at the Bracebridge Seniors Centre and the Utterson “Live Wires.” Known for her competitive spirit at the card table, she enjoyed every game and the friendships that came with it.
She loved to travel with family and friends and made many cherished memories exploring Canada’s East Coast, as well as visiting Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, and many southern destinations.
Louise found great joy in simple pleasures at home, she enjoyed watching game shows, the Toronto Blue Jays, and taking in the beautiful view over Brandy Lake while watching birds and deer. She also took great pride in tending to her beautiful flower gardens.
Louise will be remembered for her warmth, her love of community, and the many memories she created with those closest to her.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Canadian Raceboat Hall of Fame & The Venue, 1512 Muskoka District Road 118 West, Bracebridge, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Andy’s House.
