Lloyd Ivor Samuel

April 26, 1939 — July 23, 2024

Bracebridge

We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Lloyd passed away at Andy’s House Hospice in Port Carling on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

Lloyd was born in Toronto at Wellesley Hospital on April 26, 1939, the eldest child of Ivor and Elsie Samuel. He was a caring brother to Terry, Marilyn (Kearns), Pat (Morwood) and Joan (Stuart).

Lloyd is survived by his wife Beth, the love of his life who he met on the bowling league at Earl Haig Collegiate when they were 17 and 16 years old. They went on their first date to the school prom at Casa Loma and married in 1959. On Saturday evening they celebrated their milestone 65th wedding anniversary at Andy’s House.

Moving to Mortimer’s Point on Lake Muskoka in 1973, Lloyd and Beth raised their 4 children Cathy (Steve), John (Terri), Susi McCord, and Debbie King (Donald). Lloyd is also cherished Grandpa to Jessie, Darcy, Samantha, Will, Hailey, Amanda and Nat.

A graduate of Queen’s University, Lloyd continued his teaching career in Muskoka at Glen Orchard Public School until his retirement in 1994. He was proud to be a volunteer firefighter in Glen Orchard for 21 years, as well as a founding member of the Port Carling Rusty Blades old timer hockey team.

Lloyd will forever be remembered by all who knew him for his one-liner puns and sense of humour, his sweet smile and kindness and compassion towards everyone he met. A self-taught musician, Lloyd entertained countless campsites and gatherings on his piano, accordion, guitar, harmonica and any other instrument he picked up. Together Lloyd and Beth traveled extensively around the world, highlighted by the many months spent touring in Australia and China.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Castle Peaks and Andy’s House for their loving care and compassion during his final months and days.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Muskoka or Andy’s House.

A private family interment will be held at a later date.
