Kenneth Edwin Smith, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, April 13, at The Pines Long-Term Care in Bracebridge, Ontario.
Born on August 11, 1933, in Digby, Nova Scotia, Ken was born to parents Oakley and Hazel Smith of Smith’s Cove. He lived a full and dedicated life centered around family, hard work, and the outdoors. He spent his early working years in Sudbury, where he worked in the nickel mines and at the local jail. He later moved to Bracebridge, where he served with dedication at Beaver Creek Correctional Facility for 25 years.
Ken was a proud Mason and an active member of his community. He also served as President of the Bracebridge Bears Junior C hockey team from 1970 to 1982, contributing his time and leadership to local sport.
He shared 73 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Crystal Annabelle Smith (née Jewell). Together they built a strong and loving family. He is also survived by his children Greg (Heather), Janice, Monty (Natalie), and Rod (Susan); his grandchildren Allan, Jared, Jennifer, Emmet, Brittany, and Rachael; and his great-grandchildren Savannah, Carson, Gregory, Brooklyn, Oliver, Ronan, Connor, Oakley, Maeve, and Autumn.
Ken will be fondly remembered for his love of breeding thoroughbred racehorses, and for the joy he found in hunting, fishing, and reading. His quiet strength, dedication, and deep love for his family will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
