It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Mike Lancelotte on Dec. 15, 2022.
Mike was born on March 2, 1942, in Ballymoney, Ireland to Albert and Violet Lancelotte (Jones). His parents were stationed in Ireland during WW II. His father was a medic and was deployed to North Africa. At that time Mike and his mother returned to their native home of Wrexham, Wales. In 1953 the family emigrated to Canada and became Canadian Citizens in 1977.
Mike leaves behind his wife Margaret (Pegg) (Walling)of 54 years, his son Ian (Isabelle) of Ottawa, his daughter Janis (Jeff) of Waterford, and his grandchildren Emily, Mason, Lance, Reid and Thomas, his sisters Carol (Tony) of Oshawa, and Linda (Joey) of Toronto. Mike was predeceased by his brother Brian (Pat) of St. Catherine’s.
Mike graduated from York University in 1969 and later earned a Master of Education.
His career was focused on adult education at Humber College from 1970 - 2000. He travelled to South Africa several times working in international adult education programs. Mike was an active member of the Probus Club of Central Muskoka. He was a past treasurer, president, and participant in many interesting groups. Many members of the club became treasured friends.
In his family life cottaging, swimming, camping, canoeing, and hiking were an integral part of his social life. Travelling was a favourite pastime, along with music (Muskoka Men of Song) and time with his grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Mike on June 24, 2023.
Donations in his honour can be made to the Bracebridge Manna Foodbank where he volunteered for 19 years, the Salvation Army, the Muskoka Hospice or a charitable organization of your choice.
