John Davidson "Dave" Coon

On Sunday, November 23, 2025, John Davidson (Dave) Coon passed away at Andy’s House in Port Carling at the age of 80 after his battle with cancer. Beloved husband to Susan and loving father to Christopher. Born to Evelyn May Holladay and Frederick Russell Coon in Newmarket. Dave was raised on a farm in Aurora along with his sisters Diane, Catherine (deceased) and brother Gordon (deceased).

At age 18 Dave joined the Toronto Metropolitan Police Force and proudly served for 10 years. Susan and Dave were married September 29, 1973, in Ottawa. They spent their honeymoon at Cedar Grove Lodge in Huntsville and that is where Dave fell in love with Muskoka. In 1974 Dave worked as Assistant Director of Security for Consumers Distributing for 3 years. In 1977 Dave moved his family to Bracebridge and started C & B Alarms Ltd. which they had for 45 years and sold in 2022. During this time, he was proud to serve as a Police Officer with the Ontario Provincial Police Force for 6 years here in Bracebridge, Orillia and Burks Falls. For 12 years Dave and Susan had an RV and travelled all over with their dog (Shelby) and cat (Oscar). The last 6 winters were spent in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Dave was a member of the Victoria Masonic Lodge 474 in Toronto and also a member of the Masonic Lodge 360 here in Bracebridge. He was also a member of the Bracebridge Kinsmen Club.

The family wishes to express their thanks to all the Dr’s, Nurses, Home Care Nurses and staff at Andy’s House for the compassionate care they all provided over the last 18 months.

As per Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the local OSPCA, Canadian Cancer Society or Andy’s House would be appreciated.
