Joanne Celia Mary Nickason (Rees) passed away peacefully in her 88th year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edgar Nickason and her cherished son Edward Nickason whom she missed dearly. Joanne is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra Crain and Debra Nickason, who carry forward her strength and resilience.

Known affectionately as “Nan and Nanagoat”, Joanne was the heart of her family. She shared a special bond with her nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, who will forever remember her warmth, quick wit and the light she brought into their lives. Being Nan/ Nanagoat was not just a nickname—it was a role she embraced with pride and endless love.

Joanne was strong-willed, full of personality and known for her spirited nature. She had a sharp intellect and a deep love for puzzles and crossword books, always enjoying a challenge and keeping her mind as lively as her spirit.

Joanne was a longtime member of St. Thomas Anglican Church, where her faith and sense of community were an important part of her life.

Joanne will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on through the stories, laughter and love she leaves behind. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with those she loved and lost and that her vibrant spirit will forever remain a part of them.

A special thank you to the staff at Muskoka Traditions Retirement Home, where she truly enjoyed her time and was surrounded by kindness and care. As well as a thank you to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Collingwood General and Marine and Huntsville District Memorial Hospitals for their compassionate care.
