Jessie Pauline Mitchell

January 3, 1926 — September 14, 2025

Port Sydney

Jessie Pauline (Polly) Mitchell passed away peacefully at Andy’s House in Port Carling. She was only 3 ½ months shy of her 100th birthday. She was the youngest child of William Carter and Clara Randall of Welland, Ontario. If you got her talking about the farm she grew up on in Welland, she’d talk for hours. She wanted me to take her there but was sad when I told her the farms are all gone now. Mom loved the outdoors and enjoyed her last few months watching the birds on the deck and playing with the cats and sneaking food to them and the dog. She ran Triple Star Bait and Tackle in Baysville for many years and really enjoyed meeting her customers. She had no issues digging her hands into a pile of worms, leeches or minnows. She enjoyed selling her Avon and going through her stamp collections. Her and her husband Mitch also started and belonged to the Vagabonds CD club back in the 1980’s and they loved showing off their price pigeons at the fall fairs. She enjoyed going to any CAW courses that Mitch went to especially when her grandchildren Randal and Krystal got to go as well.

She lived her last 2 years with her daughter in Port Sydney and took a few trips to Niagara to visit with her oldest daughter and son and many grandchildren, great grand children and great great grandchildren and even a few of her nieces and great nephews, which made her very happy to be able to connect with them. When we would go through the list of how many people there are out because of her she would get overwhelmed with it. She really enjoyed her visits from her grandchildren from the Niagara area the last few years as well. But she was happiest when her son in law Bryan made her breakfast or when he would come home and give her a big kiss and hug. That always made her smile, and she’d ask for more. She still enjoyed flirting with the male paramedics that would come into the house too, except one because he was too short. LOL

The PSW’s and nurses that came to the house would have to deal with mom’s stubbornness, but they all loved her, and special thanks goes out to her special ones, Deanna, Sam, Rena and Rachel and her sitter Marlene. She’s had a few others over the last 2 years but she made a special connection with these ones and would listen to them most times.

Pauline was predeceased by her husbands Bruce Petrie (1968) and her husband Robert Mitchell (2016). Her daughter Leslee May and son in law David May, her son Bobby Mitchell, grandchildren Bruce Butterworth and John Quill-May and son in law Jack George.

She is survived by her daughters Joan (Bob) Butterworth, Janine (Bryan) McIntyre and Bonnie Dair. Her sons Wayne (Ellie) and Larry (Marlene) Petrie.

Her grandchildren Mark, Marlene, Nanci-Anne, Bruce, Willie, Christina, Jacob, Randal, Krystal, Amanda, Stephanie, Vanessa, Curtis and step grandchildren Chrissy, Bryan, Jamie, Tracy, Jody, Brandy, Shannon and Eddie.

Her great grandchildren Billi-Jo, Stephan, Christina, Andrew, Matthew, Katelyn, Misty, Jeremy, Jacqueline, Ashley, Cameron, Christopher, Emily, Zandriea, Jayden, Arianna, Cameron, Abraham, Alexis, Maddie, Olivia, Maddy, Hailey & Samuel. Step great grandchildren Jenna, Leah, Mya, Rachel, Olivia & Karley.

And to complete the 5 generation her great-great grand children Ericka, Austin, Marc, Serentity, Aurora, Gabriel, Autumn, Marigold, Ava, Ella, Benny and Atlas.
