It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Janice Hummel (nee Terry) on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at the age of 69. Beloved wife of John, cherished mother to Bill, Lisa (Ken), Jennifer, Sue and Jon (Krista), and proud grandmother to Eric and Lucas. Janice is survived by her sister Cheryl (Jim) and predeceased by brothers Gordon and Wayne. She will be deeply missed by her extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A lifelong resident of Muskoka, Janice was a proud and active member of the Bracebridge Legion’s Ladies’ Auxiliary, where she held numerous executive positions over the years. She was honoured as a Life Member, recognizing over 50 years of dedicated service and commitment.
Janice was also a devoted volunteer, giving generously of her time to support organizations such as the Manna Food Bank, the Bracebridge Seniors Centre, and Andy’s House. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was awarded the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism in 2022 - a prestigious honour presented by the Province of Ontario to celebrate exceptional volunteer service. Her spirit of service and kindness touched many lives throughout her community.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 9th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bracebridge Legion, 168 Muskoka Road, Bracebridge. Flowers may be sent to the Legion to be enjoyed at the service, and memorial donations in Janice’s honour can be made to Andy’s House.
