Janet Maureen Moss, nee Bartleman, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at her home in Bend, Oregon, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 7, 1941, in New Liskeard, Ontario, Janet's zest for life and her unwavering kindness touched all who knew her.
Janet's early life in Canada set the foundation for her lifelong pursuit of knowledge and service. She completed her education at Port Carling Continuation School and furthered her academic achievements at Shaw Business College in Toronto. Her intelligence and work ethic led to a distinguished career in the banking sector, starting in Toronto. A serendipitous job transfer to Bermuda would change the course of her life, as it was there, she met her beloved husband, Richard Moss, a courageous member of the USAF Search and Rescue team.
Their love story was one for the ages, and together they embarked on a life of adventure and mutual support. Following Richard's completion of service in Maxwell, Alabama, the couple settled in the picturesque town of Bend, Oregon. Janet seamlessly transitioned to a role in the Deschutes County office, where she served with dedication until her retirement.
Janet's life was a testament to her deep Christian faith, which guided her actions and provided comfort throughout her journey. Her spirit, intelligence, and friendliness were the cornerstones of her character, earning her the respect and affection of many.
An ardent lover of nature and history, Janet nurtured a profound appreciation for the indigenous cultures of Oregon, amassing a significant collection of indigenous artifacts found during her explorations in the Oregon desert. Her home was a sanctuary for several cherished pets over the years, including a number of dogs and a beloved horse, all of which added joy and companionship to her and Richard's lives.
Janet leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted sister Mary, her brother Robert, and her adored granddaughter Tiegan, who will carry on her indomitable spirit. Janet's presence will be profoundly missed, yet her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
