Herbert Meinhard Wudke

Herbert Meinhard Wudke, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024 at his home, for the last three and half years, The Pines in Bracebridge. 

Herbert was born in the city of Stettin, Germany in 1932. He cherished his childhood with his brother Gary and sisters Eleonore and Gertrude, sharing laughter and adventures. 

In pursuit of a brighter future he moved to Canada in August 1954. He lived in Montreal where he worked harvesting tobacco, operating a lathe and as a window cleaner. Later, he moved to Toronto and then Alberta, before settling in Muskoka in the late 1970s. 

For the next 40 years, Herbert lived alone in the bush in Sundridge, where he enjoyed pastimes like sailing, gardening and painting. He also enjoyed frequent kayak trips with Gary. 

He is remembered by his brother, Gerhard (Gary) Wood, and sister-in-law Caroline, along with their sons Christopher (Angie) Wood and Michael (Amanda) Holtstrom, and his grand-niece Elizabeth (Libby) Holtstrom. 

Herbert will be remembered for his gentle nature, kindness and generosity. 

The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines for the superior and wonderful care Herbert received during his stay. 

Friends are welcome to join the family for Visitation on Friday, October 4th from 12-1pm at the Reynolds Funeral Home, Bracebridge, with the Funeral Service taking place in the Chapel at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Stephenson Cemetery in Port Sydney.
