Herb (Al to his western acquaintances) in his 65th year, passed away on January 27, 2022, at Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta. Herb is survived by his mother Joan Spencer, of Bracebridge, his siblings Mike (Kelly) Spencer, of Grimsby, John (Patti) Spencer, of Fort Erie, Brian (Caroline) Spencer, of Bracebridge, and Kathie (Tim) Newlove, of Bracebridge. He is mourned by many his nieces, nephews and cousins located throughout Ontario and the USA. Herb was predeceased by his father Bruce, sister Patricia, and niece Erin.
Herb was born in Hamilton and spent his younger years in Stoney Creek. He attended Collegiate Avenue Public School where many friends were made. Herb readily participated in the games and mischief that his brothers and the gang of neighborhood kids often found themselves in. Herb was quite proud of himself for getting a job as a delivery boy for a local butcher shop, along with showing an inherited aptitude for woodworking and carpentry, at an early age. In 1972, Herb moved with his family to Bracebridge where he attended Milford Bay Public School and Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary where, once again, many life long friendships where developed. During his late teens the lure of the west caught hold and Herb embarked on a career in the building construction industry to become an accomplished carpenter. Herb faced life with a fierce tenacity and persistence that allowed him to overcome whatever was put in front of him. Herb placed his family first and foremost and was protective of those relationships.
Cremation has taken place. A spring Internment and Celebration of Life is in the planning stage and will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to a Humane Society of your choice be made. Turns out Herb was fond of cats! Messages of condolences made be left at www.reynoldsfuneral.com.
Go in peace son, brother, uncle, and friend.
