Grant Greer

d. March 13, 2024

Windermere

With great sadness we announce the passing of Grant Greer, unexpectedly on March 13th 2024 surrounded by his family after a brief hospitalization, a mere 10 days before his 90th birthday.

Beloved husband of 65 years to Iris, awesome father to Kevin (Bridget), Scott (predeceased) and Gilda. Poppa to Quinn and Shannon (Nelson).

He will also be sorely missed by his two surviving brothers, Harry and Murray (June) and brother in law Bill Hayes. A cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews/great nieces and nephews, and his many cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Lorna Greer, his sister Ruth and brothers Ron and Bill.

We like to kid that he was always on the phone, but that’s how he kept in touch with his extended family, lifelong friends and work mates. Grant was like a surrogate father to many who lost their fathers - whether it be friends or relatives.

Grant was born in Muskoka, and married his sweetheart from Rosseau, Iris. After they were married he was working as a crane operator in construction, often relocating to job sites far and wide. They eventually settled in Mississauga when it was time for the kids to go to school, where Grant owned Belmont Crane Rental. He loved spending the weekends in Muskoka at the cottage surrounded by the family of Greer Bay, settled in 1889. Eventually he sold the business and retired back to Muskoka. He still loved playing with his heavy equipment which included backhoes, loaders, tractors and dump trucks.

Grant was a member of Windermere Lions and Windermere United Church.

Donations in Grant’s memory may be made to the Campfire Circle , a Muskoka summer camp for kids with cancer.  Please use the In Honour Campfire Circle link for your donation.
