Gord passed peacefully surrounded by family on September 25, 2024 at age 83 after a short battle with cancer. Gord is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley.
He will be missed by his three sons Kevin, Brian (Kitrina) and Steve (Amanda), and his five grandchildren, James, Leanne, Ethan, Declan and Sophie.
Brother of Lois Cope and Donald Hollingworth (deceased), son of the late Albert and Mabel Hollingworth.
Gord grew up in Muskoka on the Beatrice Town Line and spent his entire life in Bracebridge, first working as a mechanic at several different garages and then a long career on the maintenance team at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. Following his retirement from the hospital, Gord enjoyed “working” with the Quinton brothers on various construction projects across Muskoka.
Gord was a friend to all, willing to help friends and strangers alike with any problems or projects. Gord could fix pretty much anything and enjoyed both the challenge and comradery that was involved.
Gord and Shirley were blessed with many friends often established through their numerous volunteer activities with the Bracebridge United Church and local charities. Gord’s many overlapping social circles included the bird carving group, card groups, grade school buddies, cruise night gang where he joined with his 1930 Model A Ford, and many more.
The family would like to thank the team of nurses at Closing the Gap Healthcare, especially Tracy, who helped Gord over the past year.
Visitation for Gord will be held on Sunday September 29 from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. A Service will be held at 10 AM on Monday September 30th at the Bracebridge United Church.
Donations in Gord’s name can be made to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
