Georgina Briese

Georgina Briese, age 94, peacefully passed away in Hospice at Andy’s House in Port Carling on December 10th, 2023.

She was born on October 1st, 1929, to George and Mary McEachern in East York, Ontario.

She married Mervin Briese on August 14th, 1954, at Don Mills United Church and had 2 children, Barb, and Scott.

Georgina’s husband predeceased her in 2013 and she is survived by her daughter Barb (Richard) (late Terry Cousineau), and son, Scott (Elizabeth), grandchildren Christopher (Carrington), Cassandra, and Connor, and great-grandson Jaicek.  She also leaves her sister Anne and Brother-In-Law Fred, with whom she enjoyed a close relationship, along with nieces and nephews; Anne-Marie (Craig), Ian (Victoria), Suzanne (Ricardo), Leslie-Anne (Andrew), John (Jan), Pam, Jane (John) and Ann (Stephen)

She worked as a Secretary for the East York Board of Education after graduating from East York Collegiate.  She was a mother and Homemaker for many years until she and her husband started their own business where she kept books and did Administration work until they both retired.

She was predeceased in death by her parents (Mary nee Wardrope and George McEachern) as well as her Sister May (John) and Sister/Brother In-Laws, Coreen, and Charles Fenton,

Georgina was an avid swimmer, bird watcher, and badminton player.  She loved all animals but especially the raccoons the family raised from newborns and got so much pleasure from feeding and watching them along with future generations, grow up at the cottage on Three Mile Lake.

The funeral service will be Thursday, December 14th at 2 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home in Bracebridge.  Visitation from 1 to 2 before the service.

Interment will follow in the spring at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Ullswater.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Bracebridge SPCA or Andy’s House (Hospice) in Port Carling.
