George Michael Heptinstall, passed away from a heart attack at Southlake Regional Health Centre Sunday August 4th at 10.45pm. His wife Jackie was there and family members had been with him for the proceeding days. He died knowing he was loved and well taken care of.
Born in England in 1937, Mike emigrated to Canada at the age of 13, and lived in Toronto and Hamilton before settling in Aurora. It was there he met his future wife Jaqueline Wrixon.
Married for 56 years, Mike and Jackie raised 3 children in Aurora. Greg, Nancy, and Justin (deceased) Their beloved spouses, Craig, Karena and Nicci, will miss him as well. His special pride was his seven grandchildren, Morag (and James), Brennan, Caleigh, Aiden, Mikayla, Taryn and Jemima.
He leaves behind his extended family, sister Freda Rodgers, brother-in-law John Gittins, sister-in-law Susan Tolley and nieces and nephews both here and in the UK.
Mike spent his career as a teacher and principal with the York District School Board, but was a tireless volunteer with many causes. Theatre Aurora, The Humane Society, Orchestras, Choirs, Hospice and the Food Bank. After retiring he and Jackie spent several years volunteering overseas, first in Uganda and then Nepal. Upon returning home they moved to Bracebridge and became involved in the community there.
He will be warmly remembered by many friends and all who came to know him. Friends are invited to join the family at Reynolds Funeral Home, Bracebridge on Thursday, August 8th, 2019 from 2:00-5:00 pm.
Donations can be made in his name to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital or Manna Food Bank.
