Florence Ross

June 5, 1926 — February 3, 2022

Gravenhurst

ROSS, Florence Agnes – Passed away peacefully, in the early morning of Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Muskoka Shores Care Community, in Gravenhurst. She was in her 96th year. Florence was the beloved sister of the late Rev. Alan Ross, and cherished sister-in-law of Joyce Ross. Loving aunt of Jamie (Chantelle), Lizanne Harvey (Don), Cameron (Nicole) and the late Sandy. Proud great aunt of Evan, Alex, Ben, Sam, Kayla, Hailey, Tori, Sean, Meghan, Jenna, Erin, Colin, and the late Owen.

Florence was born in Toronto, spent some teen years in Chatham, and returned at the age of 20, to Toronto. She worked in the head office of Canadian Pacific Telegraph, as an operator. In 1967, her company became CN CP telecommunications, where she became a computer specialist until her retirement in the early ‘90s.  A memorable but bumpy experience was shaking up the hockey fraternity by being the first woman in the Maple Leaf Gardens press box, teletyping hockey updates and scores. Florence was always very active in her Presbyterian church, her choir, the WMS, as well as in the Girl Guides of Canada.  Florence was an avid traveller and loved to take travel and family photos. She enjoyed many hobbies but particularly quilting. Her quirky sense of humour will live on in our memories.

A Memorial will be planned at a later date, when restrictions allow a safe gathering. Thanks are extended to the caring staff of Muskoka Shores Care Centre.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Bracebridge, or Leaside (Glebe) Presbyterian Church, Toronto.
