Evan Kenneth William Martell is now in the arms of his loving heavenly father, no longer in pain or suffering and at perfect peace. Mourning together deeply at the news of his sudden death on Friday, October 29th, 2021, are his beloved wife and best friend, Heather Jane Cassie, his daughter Ava Jade Fetterly-Martell (Jessie Fetterly and Luca Fetterly-Close), step-daughters Meeda, Sylvie and Isabel Berg, his parents John Hughes, and Susan Martell (Manuel Galvao), his siblings Jagger Hughes, Morgan Hughes (Kaylee Parkin), Levi Hughes (Searra Ritchie), Nick Salouros (Julie Bodendistel), Joshua Galvao, and Brooklyn Galvao, his step-father Tim Salouros (Robin Young), his grandmother Patricia Washington, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Evan was predeceased by his grandparents, Kenneth and Irene Hughes, Jim Martell, Ed Holdsworth, and step-brother Yannis Salouros. His family was his priority and he loved them so much.
Evan was born in Newmarket, ON, on August 29th, 1987. He was raised by his parents and their various partners, as well as his grandparents. He spent his time between Baysville, Gravenhurst, Orillia, Bracebridge, and Huntsville, ON.
Everyone who knew Evan, loved him. He made friends wherever he went and will be remembered as a man who fully enjoyed life. Evan was always willing to help anyone in need and would give the shirt off his back. He was a free spirit, seeker of truth and wisdom, lover of nature, and life of the party. Evan loved being with his daughter Ava, spending time with friends and family, music, playing guitar, travelling, canoeing, camping, snowboarding, skateboarding, dirt biking, fishing, wrestling, playing with his dog Molly, reading his Bible, joining his brothers in Springdale activities, and using his skills in the building and hardscaping trades. Evan especially loved to work with Richard Evans, and Wyatt Black. Evan was detail oriented, hard-working, super handy, and “had the vision” with his precision stonework.
Evan loved the Lord, and his desire was to serve others. He used his gift of discernment with each interaction he had. Evan had the opportunity to serve through volunteering at The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation in Huntsville, including at The Table Men’s Shelter. A plaque will be made in honour of Evan as he touched the lives of guests and volunteers alike with his whit, charm, kindness, and compassion.
For those of us who loved Evan, may we take refuge in the God who saved him and find peace knowing that his memory will live on in each of us, and that he is where he longed to be. Family and close friends are invited to celebrate his life together on Friday, November 5th, 2021, for Evan’s Last Call at Nick’s Family Restaurant in Bracebridge from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.
