Emily Wood

January 17, 1919 — October 1, 2019

In the early hours of October 1, 2019, God answered the prayers of Emily May Wood (nee Holton) and called her home while she slept at Nipising Manor, Corbiel. Emily would tell you that she was 100 years, 8 months and 14 days old.

Born on January 17, 1919 second of  four children of William and Gertrude Holton of Rosseau. Wife of the late Frank T Wood and mother of three boys Barry (Ingrid), Rob (Fay) and Peter (Kathy). grandmother of 9, great grandmother of 10 and great great grandmother of 3

Her older brother John and youngest sister Ruth passed away many years before her.

She is survived by her younger sister Dorothy Jacklin who visited her just six days before her passing.

Her service to the village of Rosseau can be noted in her many lifelong memberships: Anglican Church Women, Womens Institute, Legion Auxilary and organist for 72 years at her beloved Church of The Redeemer Rosseau

Her working career included Secretary-Treasurer for  Rosseau Hydro Commission, Real estate sales, Rosseau Post Master, Rosseau Village clerk, Royal bread maker to HRH Prince Andrew and Fergie, and piano teacher for $1 a lesson to offer a partial list.

Until May 2019 she enjoyed her declining years living with the care of Peter, Kathy, Martha and Jeremy in their Bracebridge home. Care givers from Closing the Gap, Care Partners, Dr Keith Cross, Dr Scott Whynot, Anita and Ruth were essential in her prolonged life at home.

Nipissing Manor in Corbiel cared well for her in her last five months

On Jan 19, 2019 her 100th birth was celebrated at an open house in her Bracebridge home with over 100 guests including her sister Dorothy. Many tributes came by mail including one from Queen Elizabeth II.

When asked about her life accomplishments Emily would simply say that God placed her on earth across from the village church to serve others.

The service to the Church Of The Redeemer Rosseau by Emily and Frank is forever memorialized by the two stained glass windows in the entryway of the church dedicated for their service and crafted by son Peter.

Celebration of life will take place at the Church of the Redeemer in Rosseau at 1pm Saturday October 26. Lunch to follow in Rosseau Community Hall.

Donations in her memory may be made to The Church of The Redeemer or The Ronnie Fund/Peter Wood in Kenya
