In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memoriam to Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka.

Along the River Clyde rests two towns, Gourock and Greenock. Edmund Goldthorp was born January 13,1935 and was raised during a war torn period that took his parents from the bombed out region of Gourock, down the River Clyde, to the new housing developments of Greenock Scotland.

Born the third boy to a Blacksmith, Edmund Sr. and mother Maria, he resided there until the age of 17, when he decided to take the Atlantic crossing and emigrate to Canada, Toronto specifically. He soon found himself travelling to Newfoundland, where he worked remotely, in Tilt Cove for the mine.

It is here that he met his wife Eileen, the daughter of one of the local miners. They married in 1957, and they subsequently had 5 children in Newfoundland before moving to the Montreal, Quebec area, where the family bloomed with 3 additional children.

In 1979 he moved his family to the Muskoka area of Ontario, living close to Algonquin Park for a spell, before moving to Bracebridge. They resided in Bracebridge for a number of years, where he worked in the real estate field, before moving with his wife and youngest son to Timmins, Ontario. He had a career in life insurance there before retiring and moving back to Bracebridge.

He entered hospice care at Andy’s House in Port Carling where he passed away November 21, 2023, comforted by the nursing staff. He is survived by Eileen, his wife of 66 years and their children Edmund (Helena), Kathleen (Terry), Thomas (Mary (deceased)), Elizabeth (Drew), James, Ellen (Brian), John (Sheryl), David (Kathy) and 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

The family would like to especially thank Cristina, his nurse from Paramed, for her caring service over the last 3 years.
