Dr. Barry Allen Martin, B.A.M.Sc. M.D.,FRCP(c)
June 28, 1945 to August 23, 2022.
Dr. Barry Martin died on August 23, 2022 at the termination of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Born in Quebec City and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as the son of Rodney Daval Martin and Brenda Allen Martin (Robinson), brother of John Rodney Martin (Sue) and predeceased by brother Richard Daval Martin (Jeanette). Husband of Carol Anne Naish and former spouse of J. Adele Martin (Bowman), father of Warren Blair Martin (Brittney) and Adrienne Gallinaro (Sergio). Grandfather to Sullivan and Aden Martin and Capri and Saverio Gallinaro.
Dr. Martin was a graduate of The College of Medicine in Saskatchewan and at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He practiced Psychiatry at The Clarke Institute / Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CIP/CAMH) in Toronto from 1977 until retirement in 2021. In addition, he conducted outreach practices at The Seniors’ Mental Health Service at Westpark Health Centre, Muskoka – Parry Sound Community Mental Service and Stratford Seniors’ Mental Health Service. He was head of the Electroconvulsive Therapy Program at CIP/CAMH for 25 years and has an international reputation with one of the most publications in the field in Canada. Dr. Martin left a good footprint with respect to his relationships with patients, colleagues and staff.
An acknowledged work-a-holic. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with his children, now adults, and grandchildren. He enjoyed boating with Carol and friends on the Muskoka Lakes / Georgian Bay / Ottawa and the St. Lawrence.
Several celebrations of life were held with Dr. Martin in attendance to drink a martini.
Dr. Martin wishes to acknowledge the kindness of the staff at the RVH Cancer Centre and at Hospice Muskoka.
A visitation will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, a second visitation will take place from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Bracebridge, starting at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to Canadian Mental Health Association - Muskoka-Parry Sound (CMHAMPS) would be greatly appreciated and can be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home.
