Douglas Eric Thomas Ball, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025 at Andy’s house.
Born and raised in Bracebridge, Ontario, Doug grew up on the family dairy farm, where he learned the values of hard work, dedication, and community that stayed with him throughout his life. He remained deeply rooted in Bracebridge, the place he proudly called home.
Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharon.
Doug will be remembered by his children Glenn, Cathy (Rick), Harold (Laurie), and Debbie (Mike). He was a Grandfather to Jonathan, Lindsay, Jessie, Meghan, Brandon, Alex, Sophie, and Abby , and a cherished great-grandfather to Maizy, Kailand, and Matthew.
Doug was known for always having a story to tell. Whether it was a work tale from his more than 20 years with the town—often involving a memorable find from the garbage truck—a hockey story as he enjoyed playing for the Old Wicks and Gravenhurst Steamers, or a hunting story that often included drinking beer with the guys at the Spa. He also treasured time spent at the cottage, happily doing just about anything except fishing.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Andy’s house for all the care provided for Doug throughout this time. In leu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Andy’s house in Port Carling in his honour.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 10th at the Bracebridge Legion from 2 - 4.
