Dorothy Frances Read

d. February 22, 2024

Bracebridge

On Feb 22 2024, at Hospice Muskoka's Andy's House in Port Carling ON, our beloved family matriarch Dorothy Frances Read died peacefully, surrounded by her children who sang her home to heaven. She was 95.

Dorothy blazed her comet across all our skies. She was as stylish, beautiful, and brilliant as she was athletic and magnetic. Keenly interested in everything and everyone, she was a lifelong learner and made friends wherever she went. You were never a stranger for long when Dorothy was in the room.

Award-winning real estate agent, insatiable reader, model, lifelong pianist who loved to play for 'the seniors', knitter, dog lover, sports fanatic, world traveller with second husband Alan Sinclair, dedicated community volunteer - Dorothy lived a vigorous abundant life from start to finish. In her seventies she was winning regional tennis tournaments with her forty-year-old doubles partner. Just two weeks before her death, Dorothy was up on the floor square dancing with new friends at Bracebridge's Senior Centre for Active Living.

Above all, Dorothy was a born storyteller. She loved to laugh and share her stories with everyone, anyone, especially of Jesus and His love and of God's amazing grace and faithfulness to her throughout the nine and a half decades of her stupendous life.

Dorothy's treasured five children from her marriage to our marvelous father the late Gordon William Holmes thank God for her long and loving presence in our lives: Sharon Woodruff (Ken), Dr. Bruce Holmes (LeeAnn), Paul Holmes (Carol), Suzanne Holmes Rutherford, and Laura Dixon (Randy).

Predeceased by her wonderful parents Rev. Leon Stanley Read and Dorothy Phyllis Fisher-Corns, and her amazing sister June Rosemary Poynton, Dorothy was also beloved aunt to the fabulous Poynton, Richardson and Holmes clans.

Dorothy's zest for life and laughter and her robust faith in God are tremendous legacies for all of us and especially for her precious 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Unforgettable Dorothy, we celebrate you! We love you dearly, Mom! You are in our hearts and will be sadly missed. We will see you again in Glory!
