Dorothy Evelyn Miller (nee Helmkay) passed away peacefully in her 93rd year on April 15, 2019 at The Pines Long Term Care facility in Bracebridge. Predeceased by her husband Alvin and son Lloyd. Loving Mother of Helena Taylor (Peter) of Stouffville, Lorraine Pierre (Terry) of Bracebridge, Evelyn Sweeney of London and Paul Miller (Tracey) of Gravenhurst. Dorothy (Grandma Dot) will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Stephanie (Darren), Ashley, Courtney (Megan), Ryan (Cassidy), Corey (Brooke), Madison, Pamela (Kris) and Adam. She is also survived by her loving sister Jean Orser (Frank) of Elmvale. Dorothy will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and family friends.
Dorothy was one of seven children, born in Creemore to Milton and Annie Helmkay. She married Alvin Miller in 1951 and after farming in the Collingwood and Stayner communities, they relocated to Barrie. Following retirement, they built a home in Gravenhurst. After Alvin's passing, Dorothy relocated to Bracebridge.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care provided by Dr. Victoria Dechert and the incredible, caring staff in the Maple unit at The Pines.
Private family graveside service will occur at the Barrie Union Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life at a future date.
