It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donald Calvin Speck who passed away at SMMH on Sunday June 5, 2022 with his wife and daughters by his side.
Don was born on June 14, 1931 in Bracebridge, Ontario and at the age of 13 he started work at Muskoka Trading a local grocery store and feed mill. Over the course of his career Don went from sweeping floors to management and eventually in 1975 he and his wife Betty bought the store and continued to run it until it closed in 1992. Don then decided to get a job at a local auto parts store MAP and at the age of 80 he felt it was time to retire.
Don was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 161 and for over 50 years and was a regular at darts on Wednesday night with his good friend Harold.
Don loved playing golf, watching the Blue Jays games, puttering around his yard, going for drives around town to see what was new and spending time with his family. In recent years Don could often be found touring the town with his faithful companion Molly at his side.
Don was predeceased by his father John Charles Speck, his mother Elsie Speck (Cox), his brothers; Harold, Charles and Mervin. He leaves behind his wife Betty Josephine (Kirchner) of 62 years, his daughters; Linda Austin (Ivan), Karen Hunter (Shane) and Wendy Horton (Len). Grandchildren Jenna Domalik (David), Aaron Austin (Crystal), Chrystal Horton (Charles), Melissa Clark (Logan), Donald Austin (Christine) and Matthew Hunter. Great-grandchildren; Lucas, Jacob, Sofia, Conor, Peyton, Mackenzie, Noah and Stanley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
