In Loving Memory of Don Mair
1963 – 2025
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Don Mair, who died suddenly at his beloved cottage in Bonfield, Ontario on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 61. Don was the world’s best father to Sam (Joey) and Reilly (Spencer), and the much-loved husband and lifelong companion of Luanne, with whom he built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. His family was the centre of his world, and he brought to them the same warmth, curiosity, and steady presence that he shared with everyone he met.
Born to Gladys and Jack Mair (both now deceased), Don carried forward their generous spirit and strong sense of community. A born people-person, he had a rare gift for connection. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, whether in a checkout line or on a backroad, and he genuinely wanted to know: Where are you from? What do you do? Meeting new people wasn’t just a pastime for Don, it was a joy.
Don wore many hats in his lifetime: salesman, marine mechanic, outdoorsman, and a remarkably skilled genealogist. He had a passion for family history and could trace roots and branches through generations with care and precision, always eager to share what he found. He spent countless hours working on boats, understanding every bolt and bearing as deeply as he understood the stories of the people around him. Whether in a workshop or out in the woods, Don was truly at home.
He lived a life rich in stories, relationships, and curiosity, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and deep familial love. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider taking a moment to strike up a conversation with someone new - Don would have liked that.
