David Frederick Powley

May 17, 1941 — June 3, 2024

Bracebridge

Peacefully at Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka, on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 83. Beloved husband for over 59 years of Lynne Powley (nee Glass). Loving father of Christina (David), Tricia (David), Glenn (Darren), and Allison (Peter). Proud grandfather of Dana (Keith), Eric (Sarah), Connor, Jacob, Bradley, Gregoire and Dean. Predeceased by his parents Dr. Frederick J. Powley and Margaret (nee Garrow) and by both younger siblings Miriam and Randy.

For thirty-four years Dave worked in education, first as an inspiring history teacher and football coach, then as a formidable vice principal, always a friendly and caring advocate who had the students’ best interests at heart. He took great pleasure in working for the TDSB at Agincourt, West Hill, Borden, Mowat, Cedarbrae and Campbell.  Teaching gave him the most joy, and after retirement, he briefly returned to teaching civics back at Woburn before moving to Muskoka where he had a second career in civic life as president of the Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce and was also involved with the Committee Promoting Muskoka Rail Travel and with the Muskoka Rail Museum.  Dave was an avid fan of the Leafs, perennially disappointed but happy to remember their last Stanley Cup wins.

A lifelong model train enthusiast, Dave enjoyed what he referred to as his “old man’s train club” and his “young man’s train club” while slowly building his model train empire in the basement. He has left a legacy of love, friendship, laughter and the importance of rail travel in Ontario’s history.

Thank you to his friends and neighbours for their kindness and support and to all of the nurses, PSWs and volunteers at Andy’s House, Port Carling for their care and dedication.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10:00am prior to the funeral service at 11:00am at the Reynolds Funeral Home, 1 Mary Street, Bracebridge, Ontario, P1L 2B6.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you direct donations to Andy's House, South Muskoka Hospice.

Always Loved. Always Remembered.
