Cora Moore

February 9, 1920 — August 14, 2018

Cora Marguerite Moore (1920 - 1918) Cora Moore, nee Doble, was the fourth child of eight born to Bernard and Louisa Doble. She grew up on the family farm outside of Sunderland, Ontario. She is predeceased by sister Marion and brothers Bill, John, Norm and Jim. Her sisters Olive Baldwin and Isabelle Smith live in Bracebridge and Uxbridge, and a dear sister-in-law, Mable Doble, lives in Sunderland. Cora and her future husband Cecil started to "court" in 1939, and following the war in which Cec served, they were married in 1945. After living in Sunderland and Duparquet, Quebec, they moved to first Bracebridge and then Muskoka Falls, where they lived for many years. During her youth, Cora had acquired the skills to be an excellent homemaker and avid gardener, which she continued to practice into her nineties. In earlier years, many locals and cottagers might recall stopping to buy fresh vegetables and berries at the foot of their driveway. While many could rightfully attribute her longevity and good health to a diet that featured produce from their own gardens, others could note that working in her flower gardens also brought her great joy of spirit, and she was very proud to tell you that she successfully propagated literally thousands of tulip bulbs from the original few she purchased many years ago. The Moore name was well known at the local Fall Fair for years. When the cold Muskoka winters drove her indoors, her creative talents turned to many forms, including copper work, pottery, bunka stitchery, furniture refinishing, driftwood lamps, and others. Her ability to affix almost invisible patches, to turn a collar, and to darn a sock to better than new was much appreciated by all family members. Cec and Cora moved to Bracebridge in 1992. When Cec died in 1996 after 51 years of marriage, Cora lost her beloved best friend and constant companion, who she continued to miss on a daily basis. Living independently became too great a challenge after a shoulder replacement in 2013, and so Cora spent several years at James Street Place in Bracebridge and subsequently at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville. There, her spirit was enjoyed by the very special staff of Home Area 2, who often noted how much they loved to see the twinkle in her eye and her smile. Cora passed from this life peacefully on August 14 at the age of 98. Cora leaves son Wayne (Jackie), son Gerry (Heather) and daughter Mary Jane Oliver (Tim); grandchildren Marnie Managhan (Brien), Kristel Downey (Mark), Hollis (Nathaniel), Graham (Naomi), Chad (Candice), Lexie and Brandon; and great grandchildren Abby, Ben, Isaac, Julia, Felix and Archer. Each and every one of them will miss Cora's presence in their life. While she is gone from our daily lives, her influence will be with us always. Cora will be laid to rest at an interment service at Foster Memorial Cemetery, 9449 Concession Road 7, Uxbridge on October 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow at Greenbank Centennial Hall.
