It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Haddow Benedetto on November 29th, 2023. Cathy fought the complications of Diabetes, but it never stopped her from living her best life. The world has lost a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. We will all miss her more than words can say.
Cathy always dreamed of being a wife and mother. In 1967, she married ‘her man’, the love of her life, Mario. She became a mother for the first time in 1968 to her daughter, Elizabeth (Lizzie). Cathy went on to pursue her career in medical records at the Hospital for Sick Children and Women College Hospital. In 1977 the family moved to Oshawa where she introduced her second daughter, Carmine. In 1977, this little family of 4 moved from Southern Ontario to their new home in Capreol, Ontario.
Cathy shared her love of laughter, crafts and sisterhood with the girl guides of Canada (Snowy Owl) and her community. She played baseball with the Capreol Blue Hens softball club and enjoyed the great outdoors. In 1983 they moved to Pickering and two years later. In 1985, Cathy, Mario and the girls moved to Montreal where she brought Gregorio into the world. Cathy, Mario and Gregorio moved to Bracebridge in 1996 where they lived a life full of sports, the Catholic Woman’s League, High School Parent Council, Out of the Cold, the Christmas Shoebox Program, friends and community. She was overjoyed at the growth of her family with partners in life: Greg and Carrie, Carmine and Jenna, and Liz and Lawrence. She was a mentor to her grandchildren who began to join the family in 1999. Emily, Robert, Christopher, Giovanni and Anthony brought endless love and joy into her life. She loved to watch figure skating, soccer, hockey and baseball with a smile. She adapted with ease to playing with her two youngest grandbabies over Facebook during the Global Pandemic. She was the playful, funny and always joyful G-MA.
Everyone is invited to the visitation at Reynolds Funeral Home in Bracebridge on December 4th, 2023 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Cathy’s funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bracebridge on December 5th at 11:00 AM. For those who cannot attend, the service will be live streamed on the St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, Bracebridge, Facebook page (go on your Facebook page, then video, then live, then enter St. Joseph Catholic Parish-Bracebridge).
No matter where Cathy lived, she gave relentlessly to her community: we ask that you please support and bring a non-perishable item to the funeral home or drop off your donation at a local grocery store when doing your shopping. We will also be accepting gently used clothing items to be given to Diabetes Canada https://www.diabetes.ca/ as she was a strong believer in helping others and finding a cure. We gratefully ask that any donations be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) https://www.jdrf.ca/ in her memory.
