Brian Tickle

Brian Alexander Tickle “BT” passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, April 21st, at his home in Bracebridge, Ontario a few days short of his 87th birthday.

Born to parents, Alex and Phyllis Tickle on May 3rd, 1939, in Manchester, UK, Brian’s early years were spent in Surrey, England. Evacuated to northern England during World War 2, Brian lived with Ronald and Hilda Pickle, whom he kept in touch with until their deaths. He emigrated to Canada at 17 years of age to forge a new life of opportunity and adventure.

Brian lived a full life centered around family, good friends and a “work hard, play hard” mentality. He started his career with Bell Canada soon after moving to Toronto and made many professional advancements before his retirement as President and CEO from Bell Canada International at age 56.

In 1965, Brian and Maureen (nee Maloney) married. Together they built a loving family and successful life. Also survived by his children, Jessica (Paul Mascarin), Rebecca and David (Tess). Affectionately referred to as “Bubba” by his grandchildren, Patrick, Zoe, Hannah, Maxwell, Yuri, Audrey and Sylvia. His brother, Barrie (Valerie), nephews, nieces and cousins in the UK remained close to Brian.

Brian will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, quick wit, summer parties, his love of travelling and his service to Rotary. Known as “the Man in Black,” Brian enjoyed life to its fullest and was a loyal friend to many.

Thank you to the home-care team and doctors that looked after Brian during his final days, allowing him to remain comfortable in his home. As per Brian’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation.
