The world became a smaller place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with the passing of Barry William Young. He died peacefully at home in Kingston, Ontario, where he lived with his loving wife Diane.

While born in Toronto, Ontario, most of his earliest memories began with growing up on Aubrey Street in Bracebridge, where his family moved when Barry was still a child. Often fondly called “Diaper Row”, this post-war neighbourhood fostered lifelong character in those that lived there – financial prudence, respect and support for people you met and lived alongside, the value of friends, a strong sense of humour - all can be traced to this beginning.

Many will remember Barry's numerous professional and public contributions. His efforts to make the lives of his loved ones, and his larger community a better, happier place were appreciated by all who knew him. He tried hard to make sure everyone, regardless of their beginnings or current status, had a voice, which he encouraged them to use and, if necessary, would add his voice to theirs.

Barry was blessed with a sharp wit, sense of humour and superior communication skills. This effervescence was evident in his love of bright coloured clothing. He was comfortable making himself present at any occasion, invited or otherwise, as he was sure “those people over there” would be interesting and he would really like to meet them. You may not always have agreed with Barry, but, if he had his way, your differences were resolved with a smile and a handshake.

First and foremost, Barry loved his family. He leaves his wife Diane (Nagorsen), son Adam (Carolyn Saunders), son Lucas (Paige Symonds), granddaughter Violet, siblings Sandra Winspear (Chris), Heather Moore (Gerry), Jeff (Darlene), brothers-in-law Ron Kujansuu, David Nagorsen (Nancy), sister-in-law Wendy Boose, his numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved aunt Velma Ball.

Barry is predeceased by his mother and father (Ida and Ralph Young), his elder sister Karen (Kujansuu) and the family patriarch James Ball.

If anyone is moved to make a donation in Barry’s memory, he would have appreciated support for your local food bank, or Turtles Kingston

All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life for Barry, to be held Saturday, July 18, at the Bracebridge Legion Branch 161, 168 Muskoka Road, Bracebridge, Ontario, from 1 to 4 p.m. Remarks at 1:30 p.m.
