TAYLOR, Allan Hubbell – Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at his home in Bracebridge. He was in his 86th year. Beloved husband of 62 years to Pat Taylor (Ryan). Cherished father of Michael Taylor (Patti) of Gillette, New Jersey, and Janet Bird (Bill) of Milford Bay. Loving grandfather of Cody Taylor, Megan Bird, Riley, and Drew Taylor. Dear brother of the late Carol Taylor of Sheldon, Missouri; brother-in-law of Ron R. Ryan (the late Sandra Garcia) of Deer Park, Texas.
Al was born in Danbury Connecticut to a long line of Taylors that founded the town. He is known in town as Big Al. That could be due to his 6’ 4” height or the size of his heart. He has always had the belief of service before self and that philosophy led him well all throughout his life and into Rotary Clubs in both Bracebridge and Peterborough and the Bracebridge United Church. Thru his school years he was active in sports and later joined the U.S. Air Force where he met the love of his life Pat Ryan, a true southern girl. They were happily married for over 62 years. Al was in the soft pitch squadron team and later in life the Grey Jays softball team. He enjoyed basketball, golfing and fishing at the French River with Tom and Sylvia Glassford and later enjoyed weekly card games. Al had an active life that he enjoyed very much. He designed and built his property to attract as much wildlife as possible. Turkeys, deer, otters, and blue herons that unfortunately enjoyed the coy in his 9th hole island pond he built in the back yard. Al was the Plant Manager at Alcan Foils in town and later CEO of Lakefield Arms in Peterborough. His hard work ethic started at Republic Foils in Danbury Connecticut after which he moved the family to North Carolina, West Virginia and finally in beautiful Muskoka with Alcan Foils. Al and Pat wintered in Myrtle Beach for many years where Al was active with Habitat for Humanity and in the Appalachian Mountains helping upgrade homes in the secluded mountains as well as at the Texas coast after destructive hurricanes. He joined fellow Rotarians in El Salvador to deliver much needed wheelchairs. He received several Paul Harris Fellow recognitions from Rotary International for his contributions and was named an Honorary Member by the Rotary Club of Bracebridge. For many years thereafter he insisted on selling tickets outside the Canadian Tire Store for the Rotary Club charities, even with a broken foot one year. He was a father and husband to be proud of. He will be missed by all who knew him and his legacy will live on.
In keeping with Allan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will welcome friends to the Bracebridge United Church, to visit and celebrate Al’s life. Visitation will be held at the Bracebridge United Church, on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow, at 2:00 PM.
