Bracebridge

We are saddened to announce the passing of Alfred Leslie Goodfellow. Alf was born in Bracebridge to Les and Pearl Goodfellow.

Alf is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Janet, Jennifer Maloney (Rick) and Joanne Gould (Dennis) and by his sister, Alice Armstrong. He also leaves grandchildren Daniel Maloney (Tessa), Kieryn Maloney, Barry Gould (Blinera) and Sarah Gould. He was the proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Alf was predeceased by his sister Shirley Ellis (Murray) and brothers Gerald (Lenore), Don (Millie) and Doug (Linda).

He completed his education and worked briefly in Toronto before returning to Bracebridge and going into the garage business with his brother Gerald. Soon after he was approached by the Ministry of Transportation to be a vehicle license agent for Bracebridge. Many knew Alf as the issuer of license plates, ownerships and driver’s licences for over 50 years.

Alf was a lifelong Anglican and served in many roles with the church. He loved sports, particularly baseball where he was a pitcher in various leagues and bowling, where he won many trophies through the years. Alf was also a member of the Spring Lake Hunt Club. Although he owned a rifle, he never found time to buy bullets for it.

Cooking was also a favourite pastime for Alf. He belonged to the gourmet cooking club the “Silver Bullets” for over 20 years. His baking was Fall Fair caliber! Alf and Carol enjoyed travelling and were fortunate to visit many parts of the world.

Alf will be remembered by many in Town as being a happy and helpful person to deal with. A very good legacy to leave.
