Alasdair Barry Bonnycastle Hayes June 24, 1955 - July 12, 2018 Blessed with a loving family and many close friends, Alasdair will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, infectious enthusiasm for life and his unwavering love of family and friends. Alasdair possessed a tremendous capacity to love and inspire all of those around him. A gifted and natural leader, he was innately inclusive and deeply valued his relationships with family and friends. His home and heart were always open and Alasdair's generosity of spirit will continue through his family and all those who loved him. Alasdair died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at age 63. He was an incredibly loving husband to Katherine Postle Hayes, beloved father of Elizabeth Erskine Hayes and cherished brother of Heather Sherk, Renée Hayes and Fiona Hand. He was born in Toronto, Ontario to the late Barry and Jane Hayes. Alasdair attended Hildersham School in Broadstairs, England and Trinity College School (TCS) in Port Hope, Ontario. He graduated from Queen's University (BA, 1976) and Tulane University (MBA, 1987). As an outstanding athlete, he was captain of the TCS cricket team and member of the Canadian national cricket team. In 1973, Alasdair was the opening fast bowler for the Canadian National Junior Team on tour to England and Denmark and in 1976 he was the opening fast bowler for the Canadian National Senior Team on tour to Ireland. He also played on the varsity squash team at Queen's university. After graduating from Queen's, Alasdair put on a backpack and set out to see the world. His desire to travel and explore never ended and he loved nothing more than to share his passion for both travel and sport with Katherine and Elizabeth. Together they went on countless world trips, and when they couldn't travel, he enjoyed exploring Toronto's food scene with his family. He cherished time spent with his wife and daughter, and taught them both how to play every sport imaginable, his favourites being golf and tennis. Alasdair was a highly successful sales and marketing executive, first leading the rapid growth of the 20/20 Mutual Fund Company until it was sold to AGF in 1995. He then opened and led Brandes Investment Partners & Co's successful entry into the Canadian market. He planned early on to retire young so that he could spend as much time as possible with his wife and daughter. He was always in the front row of Elizabeth's soccer or tennis matches and adored his time coaching Katherine and Elizabeth on sports, school and life. He was incredibly excited about the new adventure he and Katherine had embarked on - moving from Toronto to Naples, Florida. He was delighted and happy when old friends, new friends and family members, a short time later, all moved to the same community. We invite you to join us on Thursday, July 19 from 3 - 5 pm at Beaumaris Yacht Club (BYC) in Muskoka, where he served as Chairman of the Golf Committee, spending time at the place he loved most. Alasdair wanted a celebration of life with the many people that meant so much to him during his lifetime.
