Adelinda Rosa Lammers, known as Linda, age 97½, passed away peacefully after a fight with pancreatic cancer on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Andy’s House Hospice in Port Carling, Ontario.
Linda was born in Zimmerau, Bavaria, Germany and grew up in Bad Königshofen, Germany where she was the oldest of 6 children. After WWII, Linda wanted to travel and worked in England as a nanny for 2 years. After briefly going back to Germany, Linda and some of her friends immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1953. She met Herman Lammers, who was emigrating from Northern Germany, on the boat coming across the ocean and they eventually married in 1956.
Linda worked as a nanny when she first arrived in Toronto, and then at Childs Restaurant as a waitress and short order cook. She also worked at Simpson’s department store and finally at a photography studio.
Linda had a green thumb and loved to garden, winning garden awards from the City of Toronto. Her home was always filled with plants and, in later life, she grew orchids. She was a prolific knitter, and also sewed clothes and items for her home and family. More recently, in Bracebridge, when she wasn’t exploring the town on her scooter, she enjoyed the company of many friends in her building and was known for her acumen at the pool table. Particularly enjoyable pastimes she engaged in with her grandchildren were the games PayDay and cribbage.
Linda had a kind and caring nature and was loved by everyone, especially by children, who all called her Oma. Linda was a very organized and independent person, but was genuine and thoughtful. She was very sharp until the end and also maintained her sense of humour.
Linda was predeceased by her mother (Maria Foessel Kuhn), step father (Rudolf Kuhn), her husband, Herman Lammers, and brothers and sisters (Rudolf Kuhn, Inge Baumbach Pachnicke, Christine Eppler, and Helga Kuhn) She is survived by her children, Helen McNenly (Hugh) and Richard Lammers (Katherine), and her four grandchildren, Brennan and Evan McNenly, and Kimberley and Christopher Lammers, as well as her youngest brother Eugen Kuhn in Germany.
In Linda’s memory, donations can be made to Andy’s House in Port Carling, Ontario.
